Soubor Huun-Huur-Tu pochází ze sibiřského města Kyzylu, hlavního města Tuvy, autonomní republiky Ruské federace. Tuva se stala legendárně proslulou mezi vyznavači hrdelního zpěvu, k nimž soubor patří. Odedávna zde tímto způsobem zpívali původní obyvatelé sibiřské tajgy. Při hrdelním zpěvu dokáže jeden zpěvák zpívat současně dva i tři tóny. Využívá k tomu alikvótní zvuky, kterých dosahuje zvláštní vokální technikou, jež selektivně rozšiřuje přirozenou harmonii hlasu.
Huun-Huur-Tu doprovázejí svůj zpěv tradičními hudebními nástroji.
Koncem osmdesátých let přestala být Tuva uzavřená okolnímu světu a začala se mu otvírat svou jedinečnou přírodou a kulturou. Soubor Huun-Huur-Tu má na tom značný podíl - cestuje po světě a předvádí své fenomenální umění.
Skupina byla založena v roce 1992. Jejím cílem se stalo obnovení dávných tradic, vzkříšení starých a zapomenutých písní, ale členové Huun-Huur-Tu se věnují nejen tradičnímu hudebnímu umění, vkládají do něj i další prvky.
Víte, co znamená Huun-Huur-Tu? Vertikální oddělení světelných paprsků, které jsou viditelné pouze krátce po východu a krátce před západem slunce.
Složení souboru:
Kaigal-ool Khovalyg - vokály, igil (dvoustrunné housle) toshpulur (dvou nebo třístrunná loutna s dlouhým krkem), chansy (třístrunný nástroj ohnutý do luku)
Anatolij Kuular - vokály, byzaanchi (strunný nástroj), khomuz (foukací harmonika)
Sayan Bapa - vokály, toshpur, kytara
Alexej Saryglar - vokály, tungur (buben), dazhaaning khavy (chřestidlo)
Historie:
V roce 1992 založili Saša Bapa, jeho bratr Sayan Bapa, Kaigal-ool Khovalyg a Albert Kuvezin soubor Kungurtuk, který si kladl za cíl sbírat a prezentovat staré a zapomenuté písně rodné země. I když se věnovali zachovávání těchto písní, na koncertech vždy spojovali tradici s novými přístupy.
Později tito hudebníci přejmenovali svůj soubor na Huun-Huur-Tu. První CD "60 Horses in my Heard" bylo nahráno v Londýně a v Moskvě pro americkou společnost Shanachie. Další dvě alba následovala. Evropský management souboru a vydávání CD převzala německá JARO Medien, ve spolupráci s Greenwave Moskva. Obsazení souboru se změnilo, dva zakládající členové - Saša Bapa, který nyní pracuje jako producent v Kyzylu, a Albert Kuvezin, vokalista působící v oblasti folku, avantgardy a rocku (Yat-Kha) - byli nahrazeni Anatolijem Kuularem a Alexejem Saryglarem.
Tradiční hrdelní zpěv z Tuvy s použitím alikvótní techniky je fascinující a proslavil Huun-Huur-Tu jako prvotřídní mistry tohoto stylu. Rituální charakter této hudby nemůže být opomenut, Huun-Huur-Tu však přizpůsobují meditativní prvky výrazně rytmické orientaci. Technika alikvótního zpívání, která umožňuje zpívat dokonce tři melodické linky zároveň, však nastoluje vždy hluboce tajuplnou atmosféru.
Tuvanská hudba bývala tradičně provozována sólisty, a hudebníci se specializovali pouze na jeden určitý žánr nebo styl. Tyto žánry a styly mají kořeny v rozličných sociálních kontextech. Skoro všechny tyto stránky tamního hudebního života jsou dnes obsaženy v eklektických podáních Huun-Huur-Tu, jsou to staré písně a melodie s doprovodem tradičních nástrojů. Pro evropské uši je to hudba zdánlivě cizí, zároveň je ale současná a moderní.
V roce 1993 se poprvé soubor objevil v Americe a dosáhl tam ohromujícího úspěchu. Huun-Huur-tu si získali téměř kultovní oblibu, zčásti díky spolupráci s americkými hudebníky jako je Ry Cooder, který využil jejich vokálního umění v hudbě k filmu "Geronimo". Spoluracovali také s umělci: Frank Zappa, Chieftains, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Kronos Quartet a L. Shankar.
Skupina procestovala severní Ameriku a hrála téměř ve všech evropských zemích. Je zvána na četné festivaly a všude nachází nadšené posluchače. V létě 1998 se uskutečnila cesta do Japonska, a v následujících letech již koncertují po celém světě. Recenze v tisku USA:

Soubor často pracuje na společných projektech s umělci jiných žánrů. Pod vedením Michaila Alperina pracovali se souborem Angelite, renomovaným bulharským ženským sborem a s Moscow Art Trio. Nahráli společně dvě úspěšná alba a vystupovali v tomto seskupení v USA i v Evropě. Světovou premiéru programu druhého CD viděla i Praha

Ucelená sbírka patnácti tradičních písní ze stepních regionů střední Asie. Toto již druhé CD tuvanského alikvótního souboru dává vyniknout především výbornému hlasu Kaigal-ool Kovalyga.

Třetí CD obsahuje starobylejší a také novější tuvanské písně. Nově objevený materiál, zčásti natočený s hostujícími muzikanty a písně napsané ve 20. století. Sergej Starostin (Moscow Art Trio - flétny) pomohl nalézt zvukové podobnosti mezi ruskou a tuvanskou hudbou.

Žádná studiová nahrávka se nevyrovná zážitku ze živého koncertu Huun-Huur-Tu - jak by potvrdili nespočetní návštěvníci z celého světa, kteří zažili jeden nebo více jejich koncertů. Myšlenka na živou nahrávku byla proto již nějakou dobu ve vzduchu. Byly nahrány různé koncerty, ale žádný nesplňoval očekávání umělců. Až nakonec v dubnu 2001 všechno vyšlo - místo, kde se hudebníci cítili jako doma, kde hráli a zpívali s tou pravou inspirací, s jedním z nejlepších moskevských zvukových inženýrů a... jaro bylo ve vzduchu. Správný čas pro skupinu, která je schopná elektrizovat své posluchače jako žádná jiná.

Tuva (300 000 obyvatel na 170 000 km²), jež bývala součástí Sovětského Svazu, je nyní autonomní republikou Ruské federace. Leží ve střední Asii, na jihu sousedí s Mongolskem. Hlavním městem je Kyzyl na řece Jeniseji. Je obklopena horami, pouštěmi a neproniknutelnými lesy tajgy.

Ensemble Huun-Huur-Tu comes from a siberian town Kyzyl, capital of Tuva, an autonomos republic of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
Officially off limits to foreigners, Tuva had achieved legendary status among a small group of devotees fascinated by the phenomenon of throat-singing, in which a single vocalist produces two or even three notes simultaneously by selectively amplifying harmonics naturally present in the voice. For these devotees, part of the allure of Tuvan throat-singing has undoubtedly been the mystery of Tuva itself. Ringed by mountains, desert, and thick taiga forest where descendants of the aboriginal Siberian forest people still herd reindeer, Tuva, it seems, is on the way to nowhere.
The ensemble was founded in 1992. Its goal is the renewal of archaic traditions, of old and forgotten songs. The Huun-Huur-Tu members are devoted to the traditional art of music, but they are also putting in some new elements.
Do you know what does Huun-Huur-Tu mean in Tuvan? Huun-Huur-Tu is the vertical separation of light rays that you often see out on the grasslands just after sunrise or just before sunset.

History:
In 1992, Sasha Bapa, his brother Sayan, KaigaI-ool Khovalyg and Albert Kuvezin founded Kungurtuk as a means of concentrating on the presentation of old and forgotten songs of their homeland. While they devoted themselves to the preservation of these songs, their concerts have always demonstrated the significance of combining tradition and innovation.
The musicians of the ensemble later decided to rename it Huun-Huur-Tu. The first CD "60 Horses in my Herd" was recorded in London and Moscow for the American company Shanachie; since then two further albums ve been released. Collaborating with Greenwave of Moscow, JARO Medien in Bremen took over the group's European management and CD releases. The constellation of Huun-Huur-Tu has changed in the course of the years:
Two of the founding members - Sasha Bapa, who now works as a producer in Kyzyl, and Albert Kuvezin, active as a vocalist on the frontiers between folk, avant-garde and rock (Yat-Kha) - have been replaced by Anatoli Kuular and Alexei Saryglar.
Tuvan laryngeal and overtone singing is one of the most fascinating vocal techniques known and Huun-Huur-Tu masters its many intricacies with perfection. The ritual character of this music cannot be overheard, but Huun-Huur-Tu subjects the meditative tendencies to strongly rhythmical orientation. The overtone technique, capable of producing as many as three melodies simultaneously, nevertheless remains deeply mysterious.
Traditionally Tuvan music has been performed by soloist, and the musicians have specialized in one of the many genres and styles, which originated in various social contexts. Nearly all the facets of Tuvan musical life are echoed in Huun-Huur-Tu`s eclectic performances of old songs and melodies to the accompaniment of instruments. To western ears this music is intriguely strange, at the same time contemporary and modern.
In 1993 ensemble appeared in America for the first time and almost immediately its success was overwhelming. Huun-Huur-Tu quickly attained cult status in the new world, due in part to its collaboration with American musicians such as Ry Cooder, who employed their vocal for the film track of "Geronimo," Frank Zappa, the Chieftans, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, the Kronos Quartet and L. Shankar.
The group has toured North America extensively, in addition to playing in nearly all of the European countries. Its invitations to festivals ranging in orientation from ancient music to jazz illustrates the wide acceptance of its music, which continues to captivate and overwhelm audiences everywhere. On the summer of 1998, Huun-Huur-Tu travelled to Japan for the first time and since then they are having concerts all over the world.

The group recognises the need for vitality in the performance of traditional music and thus adheres to a modern conception which frequently leads to collaboration with other groups and musicians, whether for specific concert situations or participation in entire CD projects. Under the direction of Mikhail Alperin Huun-Huur-Tu has worked with Angelite, the Bulgarian women`s choir of world renown, and the Moscow Art Trio to record two highly praised productions and perform them in concert in Europe and the U. S. The world premiere of the programme of the second CD was performed in Prague too.

No studio recording can compare to the experience of a Huun-Huur-Tu concert - as countless visiters from all over the word would varify who have experienced one or more of their concerts. Therefore the idea for a live recording has been in the air for quite a while. Various concerts were recorded but none met the artists' expectations until finally in April 2001 everything came together - a place where the musicians felt at home, where they played and sang with just the right inspiriation, with one of Moscow's best recording engineers and... spring in the air. The right time for a band that is able to electrify its listeners like no other.

This is the name of a remote region, far away from the familiar route of civilization in the center of Asia. The autonomous republic of Tuva, ringed by mountains and deserts (population 300.000) is part of the new formation of countries lead by Russia. It shares its Southern border with Mongolia, the capital is Kyzyl by the river Yennisey.
