Třiatřicetiletý kanadský rodák, pianista a skladatel D. D. Jackson, žije
v New Yorku. Vystudoval klasický klavír na Univerzitě v Indianě a jazz
na Manhattan School of Music. Již jeho debutové CD mu vyneslo v Kanadě cenu
Canadian Juno za nejlepší současné jazzové instrumentální album. V roce
2000 byl vyhlášen Jazz Reportem skladatelem roku. Poslední album (RCA)
nahrál s legendárním bubeníkem Jackem Dejohnettem, saxofonistou Jamesem
Carterem, perkusistou Mono Cinelu a basistou Richardem Bonou. Zahrál si
zde i mladý talentovaný hráč na elektrické housle Christian Howes.
Jackson vede skupinu D. D. Jackson Group, která se zúčastnila několika
mezinárodních festivalů a vystupovala v Japonsku. Pro kanadskou značku
Justin Time nahrál Jackson šest alb jako lídr. Spolupracoval na nich
s Jamesem Carterem, Davidem Murrayem a Hamietem Bluiettem, klarinetistou
Donem Byronem, trombonistou Rayem Andersonem a houslistou Billy Bangem.
V poslední době se Jackson zabývá sólovým vystupováním, v duu hrál
s Chrisem Potterem, spolupracuje s bubeníkem Andrew Cyrillem a basistou
Markem Dresserem, hrává také často v triu. Byl na turné po USA, Evropě,
Japonsku i jinde jako člen Big Bandu Davida Murraye a objevil se
na třech jeho albech.
Jacksonovy aktivitity sahají i do Afriky: v Senegalu se podílel
na nahrávání CD "Back to Africa" se slavnými senegalskými hudebníky.

Canadian born pianist and composer D. D. Jackson is based in New York. Jackson
received his Bachelor of Music with High Distinction in classical piano from
Indiana University in 1989 and his Master of Music in jazz from the Manhattan
School of Music in 1991. His solo piano debut was awarded the prestigious
Canadian Juno Award for Best Contemporery (Instrumental) Jazz. Jackson was also
recently named the 2000 Jazz Report Composer of the Year. His follow-up RCA
album was recently released and features an all-star lineup of legendary drummer
Jack Dejohnette, saxophonist James Carter, percussionist Mino Cinelu, electric
bassist Richard Bona, as well as exciting newcomer Christian Howes on electric
violin.
Recent appearances of the D. D. Jackson group include several international
festivals and a tour of Japan. The 33-old Jackson's earlier CD's as a leader
included 6 recordings for the Canadian label Justin Time. He collaborated with
artists: James Carter, World Saxophone Quartet members David Murray and Hamiet
Bluiett, Don Byron, Ray Anderson and violinist Billy Bang.
Recent past appearances for Jackson as leader include a solo and duo
performances with Chris Potter, drummer Andrew Cyrille and bassist Mark Dresser.
He has toured Europe, Japan, the United States and elsewhere as a regular member
of the David Murray Big Band and he took part on his CD's.
Jackson also recently traveled to Senegal, West Africa, where he participated in
a CD for Justin Time featuring some of the greatest names in Senegalese pop
music and drumming.
